The lush valley of the St. Joe River is the spectacular setting for the town of St. Maries (pronounced St. Marys) in the North Idaho Panhandle. The mountains, rivers, lakes and forests provide a grand backdrop for the town, which was founded in the 1880’s at the confluence of the St. Joe and St. Maries rivers.
Located just 55 miles from the city of Coeur d’Alene to the northwest, St. Maries is the county seat of Benewah County, and is the commercial center for this region of Idaho. State Highways 5 and 3 both travel through the city.
The finest recreational opportunities are plentiful in this incredibly beautiful area of forests, rivers, and lakes.
Benewah Community Hospital’s 19-bed facility offers a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. Recent completion of our $1.6 million surgical suite expansion allow for the provision of both general and orthopedic surgery, with the recent addition of cataract surgery. The hospital provides full service laboratory and radiology services, obstetrical services, cardiopulmonary care, physical therapy and cardiac diagnostics. Four physicians and two Physician Assistants provide family practice care and our Emergency Room is fully staffed 24/7 with M.D.'s in-house.
