Benewah Community Hospital delivers an average of 60 babies a year. All of our nurses are certified in Neonatal Resuscitation. This class is required every two years and taught by Tracy Schwartzman RN, BSN and Ananda Greiser RN, BSN.
We offer Prepared Childbirth Classes at no additional cost if you are to deliver in our facility. The cost is $35.00 if you do not. The classes are 4 weeks long and start the first Wednesday of January, April, July and October. They start at 6:00 pm and last for 2 hours. You will need to bring your pillows, blankets, support partners and lots of questions! These classes focus on the changes in your body during pregnancy, medical interventions, nutrition and exercise, newborn care and breathing and relaxation. A tour of our newly remodeled labor and delivery suite is included in the 4th class, or just come by and see it anytime. Any of our helpful nursing staff will give you a tour.
With the expansion of our new labor and delivery suite, comes the ability to keep your newborn at your bedside. Your baby will not have to leave your side. We now do all the infant care in the delivery room with you.
In 2006, we will also offer Infant and Child CPR. These classes will be offered as an additional 2 classes after the 4 Prepared Childbirth Classes. They will begin at 6:00 pm and end at 8:00 pm. The dates for these two classes are May 3rd and 10th, November 1st and 8th. They will be free unless you would like to receive your certification card, then it will be the minimal cost of $10.00.
