The Pharmacy Department at Benewah Community Hospital is committed to providing advanced pharmaceutical services throughout the hospital. Staffed by a rotating core of hospital pharmacists and certified technicians, the pharmacy is an integral part of the healthcare team.
Our departmental focus is to provide safe, effective, and economical use of medications. The department strives to provide excellence in patient care through innovative team approaches to healing.
The BCH Pharmacy provides the following services:
- Drug monitoring- The pharmacists oversee the use of all medications. Medication profiles are maintained by pharmacists and computerization provides prompt review of drug/disease interactions, drug/food interactions, side effects, allergies, and other contraindications. Therapy review is performed as physician orders are written.
- Spectrum of Service- The pharmacy provides comprehensive services for both in-patients and out-patients including ambulatory chemotherapy services. Pharmacists are immediately available for consultation (24 hours/7 days/wk). Daily on-site visits by members of the pharmacy staff allow for comprehensive therapy review. After-hours service (3pm-9am) is covered by Kootenai Medical Center Pharmacy Tele-pharmacy communication.
- Clinical Services – Pharmacokinetic, renal dosing and drug information services are available to the medical staff 24 hours/day/7days/wk.
- Idaho’s First “Tele-pharmacy” Pilot Program. – Collaborative pharmacist “sharing” between Kootenai Medical Center and Benewah Community Hospital allows for innovative and advanced protocols and procedures.
