Our Chemotherapy Services department is conveniently located on the second floor of Benewah Community Hospital (BCH). We provide cancer patients extensive outpatient care that is coordinated with your Oncologist to help you receive comprehensive treatment close to home.
Services include but are not limited to:
- Chemotherapy infusions and injections
- Chemotherapy education
- Chemotherapy Pump removal
- Blood draws and port flushes
- Blood and Platelet Transfusions
- Growth Factor administration to maintain blood counts (Neupogen, Neulasta, Epogen)
- IV Medications and Hydration Therapy
Outpatient Chemotherapy at BCH provides specialized care and individualized treatment for a wide variety of cancers. Any of the above therapies can be ordered by any physician or specialist, regardless of where that physician’s office is located and regardless of whether or not they are on staff at BCH. Just ask your physician to call us at 208-245-7670 to discuss the referral.
We are staffed with experienced, highly trained, compassionate infusion nurses, and we are available for scheduled appointments Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm.
Meet our Team
We are proud to present our team that makes up our Chemotherapy Department at Benewah Community Hospital (BCH).
William W. Wheeler MD FACS, Specialty of General Surgery. Dr. Wheeler has been a surgeon for over 30 years, with the last 20 focused on rural care. Besides surgery, he offers PICC, implanted ports, and central line placement, care and removal. Dr. Wheeler oversees and co-signs oncology orders.
Mike Angelo RPh, Directory of Pharmacy. Mr. Angelo has 39 years of pharmacy practice with focus in Clinical & Hospital Pharmacy including oncology pharmacy practice. He trained 4 years at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center & St. Joseph Regional Cancer Center, Lewiston, Idaho as well as Kootenai Health Cancer Center, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
St. Maries Family Medicine: Family Practice Providers and Mid-level practitioners that can oversee your medical needs and coordinate treatment options with your oncologist.
Janis Worch, RN-Chemotherapy Coordinator and Educator. Janis has 24 years in Pediatric (CPON) and Adult Oncology Nursing, and has experience in establishing and running a Tumor Board, Bone Marrow Transplant program, and a Bereavement program.
Debbie Pritchard, RN BSN-Chemotherapy Coordinator/Outpatient Operations. Debbie has been with BCH for 19 years, with the last 6 of those including Chemotherapy Infusion services. Debbie teaches our Advanced Cardiac Life Support Classes, and has Trauma Nurse and Pediatric Emergency Nurse certifications.
Bobbi Machado RN, Surgical Services Manager, has been with BCH for 15 years. Mary Beare RN, Assistant Director of Nursing, has been with BCH for 30 years. Both have Chemotherapy and Biotherapy experience here at BCH, and help provide extra coverage for our Chemotherapy Department.
Our Chemotherapy Program was developed and founded in 1997 by our former Director of Nursing Marie Ross RN. Since then, we have grown to offer more treatment options for our patients.
