POSITION: Medical Technologist
SHIFT: Full-Time, Flexible scheduling required (shared evening and weekend call)

Job Summary:
Performs routine tests in medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease by performing the following duties.
- Interprets physician’s orders and secures a requisition before performing test.
- Obtains the correct amount and type of specimen.
- Draws blood from patient’s finger, heel, or vein, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
- Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid.
- Performs blood counts.
- Perform testing in accordance with AABB standards for transfusion services.
- Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens including stool, sputum, throat cultures.
- Performs tests in an accurate and timely manner.
- Informs Provider of lab results.
- Documents all requests and results of lab work accurately.
- Recognizes abnormalities and notifies provider immediately.
- Performs daily quality control and cleaning procedures per guidelines.
- Orders and stocks supplies as needed.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be nationally registered Medical Technologist with four years experience in laboratory work. Must meet all guidelines required under CLIA ’88.
- Must be available to work two to three nights/days a week on call for emergency lab services and work weekends on rotational basis. Available on call for emergency lab services three to four days/nights a week to accommodate coworker’s illness, crisis, or vacations. Must be able to return to work within 15 minutes.
