POSITION: Radiology Technologist

SHIFT:   PRN (as needed)

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of a radiologist, the technologist will perform a variety of procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnosis or intervention.  Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.  Recognizes the purpose of employment is to prioritize the patients as number one, and to put forth the utmost quality as a technologist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a positive and professional atmosphere for patients. Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary in order to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical or emotional stress and gather/exchange patient information with medical personnel and physicians.
  • Transfers and properly positions patients for examination in order to obtain desired results according to physician’s specifications or protocols. Provides immobilization as required and protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Assist patients with gowning.
  • Explain procedures to the patient.
  • Obtain patient consent when needed.
  • Selecting proper technical factors to reduce the number of repeats on an individual patient basis.
  • Performs routine and emergent exams.
  • Required to work various shifts and shares call rotation.
  • Assists radiologists in interventional exams.
  • Assists in exams with preparation and administration of contrast material either with or without a pressure injector.
  • Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination.
  • Transports patients if needed.
  • Stocks room with supplies/linens.
  • Maintains proper records of procedures.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness using prescribed infection control techniques.
  • Maintains neat professional appearance. Adheres to the Radiology Departments dress code.
  • Venipuncture experience is helpful but not required.
  • Collaborates with radiologists on a case by case basis for protocols.
  • Performs weekly QA for Bone Density Machine.
  • Wears his/her film badge/radiation monitoring device while in radiology.
  • Wears name/ID badge at all times while in the hospital.
  • Works in general radiography/fluoroscopy/ CT.
  • Responsible for determining the correct exposure factors.
  • Transmits images to PACS and to printer if needed.
  • Clerical tasks if there is no secretary for the day.
  • Inform Supervisor when the department is low on supplies.
  • Assists with CPR/First Aid as necessary.
  • Report equipment failure to manager.
  • Maintains all CEU requirements put forth by ARRT.

Education and/or Experience:

Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be ARRT certified or eligible. BLS Certified.
