Sports Medicine

Sports medicine is another important service we provide within the rehabilitation department. We work closely with all departments within Benewah Community Hospital and St. Maries Family Medicine to help coordinate all aspects of your sports PhysicalT herapytherapy. In addition to holding degrees in exercise physiology and physical therapy, our department manager, Mark Feasline, is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, which means he can offer a unique perspective to the field of sports medicine.

We enjoy working with all levels of physical performance and even offer programs for area youth involved in athletics. Our Athlete Performance Enhancement session is offered annually and is open to all interested middle and senior high school students. The program is designed to improve athletic performance, mechanics, and prevent injury.

Free sports physicals are offered through St. Maries Family Medicine once a year for all student athletes in the area. Although dates change from year to year, the physicals are usually available in the summer months, as the athletes prepare for fall sports. Call the clinic at (208) 245-2591 for more information.

Our involvement in student athletics doesn’t stop there. Our sports medicine department works closely with the school district throughout each sports season as it coordinates the concussion program with St. Maries High School. We are instrumental in helping student athletes safely return to his or her sport after suffering a concussion with our return-to-play protocol. The step-by-step process is overseen by a licensed therapist and a physician who will ensure a full recovery.

In addition to helping with injuries sustained during physical activity, we also provide important strength training and specific exercises to help with other aspects of physical rehabilitation. Our underwater treadmill has been instrumental in helping patients with all types of ongoing physical issues, including arthritis, joint replacements, and those struggling with balance.

Although each case is different, if you are referred to our sports medicine department, your first visit will usually include an evaluation to help us establish a starting point. Most often, you will be referred to us through your physician or surgeon, but physical therapy is accessible to you even without a doctor’s order. Many insurance companies’ require a referral, so be sure to check your benefits before making an appointment.

Our department is open Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. They can be reached by calling (208) 245-7634.
