Patients are our Family – Patient Testimonial
in Patient StoriesMerry Aschinger was treated in BCH’s Swing Bed Program and credits it and the staff for her progress. Swing beds are used as a way for patients to be given ongoing care without changing their location, providing them an opportunity to continue to heal comfortably.
“I found people who loved their work, their fellow staff members and their patients. The people who care for me were the best part of my swing bed stay. The staff was wonderful. I had a good time and didn’t even realize how much they were helping. I chose to use the Swing Bed Program for my therapy because it was convenient. I still received hospital care, the monitoring any my prescriptions, but the Physical Therapist and Occupational Therapist were in control of my rehab. So now, today, I am going home with the tools and skills I need to continue to improve. I can wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone who needs it; you will receive the tools you need, support you need and the encouragement you need.”

Benewah Community Hospital Receives New Quality Based Accreditation from DNV GL Healthcare.
in Press ReleaseSt. Maries, ID, September 29, 2016 — Benewah Community Hospital announces the successful completion of its new accreditation process from DNV GL – Healthcare.
By earning accreditation, BCH has demonstrated it meets or exceeds patient safety standards set forth by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. DNV GL’s accreditation program is the only one to integrate the ISO 9001 Quality Management System with the Medicare Conditions of Participation.
BCH has three years from the date of its accreditation to achieve compliance with ISO 9001, the world’s most trusted quality management system used by performance-driven organizations around the world to advance their quality and sustainability objectives.
“We have taken an entirely different approach to accreditation, and hospitals are really responding,” says DNV GL – Healthcare CEO Patrick Horine. “Since accreditation is a must-have credential for just about every hospital in this country, why not make it more valuable, and get more out of it? That’s where ISO 9001 comes into play, and turns the typical get-your-ticket-punched accreditation exercise into a quality transformation.”
DNV GL’s accreditation program, called NIAHO® (Integrated Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), involves annual hospital surveys – instead of every three years – and encourages hospitals to openly share information across departments and to discover improvements in clinical workflows and safety protocols.

Chemotherapy: Invaluable Service
in InformationFor Julian Gonzalez, Benewah Community Hospital’s Chemotherapy/Outpatient Infusion Program, co-coordinated by Registered Nurses Debbie Pritchard and Janis Worch, has been a Godsend. For years, Dr. Gonzalez would travel to Spokane for weekly treatments, while still working full-time. Now he says he receives high-quality, efficient care in the comfort of his hometown facility.
“The service is invaluable to the community, and you couldn’t have picked two better people to run it. They are extremely efficient, and they provide a warm environment. You feel very comfortable and at home here. They are attentive to your needs and offer a very good application of nursing techniques.”
In fact, Dr. Gonzales said, receiving chemotherapy treatments at Benewah Community Hospital is more than just convenient, it’s almost enjoyable.
“I don’t feel like I’m coming to see chemo nurses, I’m coming to see friends.”
