BCH Raises 2,523.2 Pounds of Food for Local Food Banks
in Press ReleaseBCH is proud to announce that we raised 2,523.2 pounds of food to be donated to the St. Maries and Upriver Food Banks! Our Staff, Medical Staff, and Board Members really stepped up to give back to our community!
Every year, St. Maries High School has a rivalry event with Kellogg High School, “Brawl for the Ball.” As a part of this event, the communities have a food drive competition to see who can raise the most food for their community’s food bank. BCH was asked to participate this year and challenged Valley Vista Care Center to see who could raise the most food for the food bank. BCH beat Valley Vista in this challenge raising 2,523.2 pounds of food. BCH thanks Valley Vista for accepting our challenge and for raising over 2,000 pounds of food as well!
Once again, our community proves to be amazing! St. Maries High School reported that our community raised over 20,000 pounds of food for the local food banks! Unfortunately, St. Maries did lose this competition to Kellogg, as they raised over 22,000 pounds for their food bank. Two communities gained an amazing benefit from this rivalry event!
BCH supports our Community and our Schools. GO LUMBERJACKS!
Liz Sellers takes helm at Benewah Community
in Press ReleaseWith nearly two decades of hospital administration experience, Liz Sellers took the helm of Benewah Community Hospital this week.
Ms. Sellers has held multiple administrative positions, including Chief Clinical Officer and Chief Operating Officer in addition to serving as interim CEO for a collective five years. Her transition into the management position of BCH was a natural one – much like the move from her long-time Colorado home to St. Maries.
“My husband and I got to come up and visit the area, and we love St. Maries,” she said. “It is comparable to where I’m from. We love the outdoors and activities like riding motorcycles, hiking and running.”
Ms. Sellers has a master’s degrees in Nursing and Health Administration and is excited about overseeing the St. Maries hospital. A bulk of her career was spent at Southwest Health Systems in Cortez, Colorado where she worked three decades and served as CCO, CNO and was a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Ms. Sellers said the most pressing issue that she sees at Benewah Community Hospital is the community utilizing the facility’s services. She plans to engage the public directly with forums where she hopes those interested can attend and provide feedback to the hospital.
“We want to keep people here,” she said. “I want to hear from the community how we can serve it better.”

Experts around, 24 hours a day. That’s a big thing!
in Uncategorized“Last week I accompanied my 4 year old Grandson to your Emergency Department. Like so many kids in the region he had the Flu and like many parents in the region, his parents were worried that they may not be doing enough. I believe they had been receiving excellent guidance from Dr. Davenport regarding his care but wanted some “hands on” confirmation when his condition seemed to worsen after hours.
I was so impressed with how smooth their intake and assessment went. It was shift change but your staff handoff’s seemed seamless. All staff (forgive me I don’t recall all names) were sensitive to parents and grandparents and most of all, treated this 4 year old patient in a manner that I believe you would approve of. In the same manner you have treated pediatric patients for many years. Dr. Moullet provided excellent support to the grown-ups in the room while keeping a keen eye on my grandson. His calming style and understandable information were very reassuring to Mom…. And by extension to grandparents as well.
He is off the couch now and is on to more typical 4 year old activities. I believe the Emergency Department visit helped bolster his parents’ confidence, and left them with the feeling that there are experts around, 24 hours a day. That’s a big thing!
Please share our thanks to the ED Staff. It may have been a very simple visit to them but a very important one to the family. Also, please share with the staff responsible for keeping the Department clean and sparkling – very impressive!”
Kind Regards.
Grandpa

BCH Named a 2018 Top 100 Critical Access Hospital
in UncategorizedBenewah Community Hospital in St. Maries, Idaho was recently named one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the United States by The Chartis Center for Rural Health.
“This achievement is very gratifying and validates our daily commitment to providing the best healthcare possible to our community, while maintaining an efficient and effective facility,” said Anthony Koroush, CEO
Benewah Community Hospital scored in the top 100 of Critical Access Hospitals on iVantage Health Analytics’ Hospital Strength INDEX®. The INDEX is the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural provider performance and its results are the basis for many of rural healthcare’s most prominent awards, advocacy efforts and legislative initiatives. The list of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals can be found at www.ivantageindex.com/top-performing-hospitals.
The Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals play a key role in providing a safety net to communities across America – and the INDEX measures these facilities across eight pillars of hospital strength: Inpatient Share Ranking, Outpatient Share Ranking, Cost, Charge, Quality, Outcomes, Patient Perspective, and Financial Stability.
“The Hospital Strength INDEX provides a true benchmark for helping rural providers to better understand performance levels and identify areas of improvement. When we look across the spectrum of rural-relevant INDEX indicators, the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals are establishing a new standard for how to deliver higher quality care to their communities despite an unpredictable healthcare environment,” said Michael Topchik, National Leader of The Chartis Center for Rural Health.
